Pundit urges Arsenal to up their game to win the league
Former defender turned pundit Jamie Carragher has claimed that Arsenal aren’t going to win the Premier League this season if they continue to perform like they have been doing in recent times.
The Gunners are currently at the top of the table with 30 points from 13 games, sitting one point above the reigning champions Manchester City.
However, although the North London club are the league leader at the moment, Sky Sports pundit Carragher hasn’t been impressed by their performances this season. Speaking on Monday Night Football, the ex-defender says that Arsenal aren’t likely to lift the title this term if they continue to perform like they have been doing in recent games.
The pundit further states that Arsenal haven’t been able to showcase the same fluidity this term as they displayed last campaign and the reason behind that is their attacking stars Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard haven’t been at their best this season.
So, Carragher urges Arsenal to raise their performance level as the pundit feels the Gunners have the quality to challenge for the title this season.
Carragher urges Arsenal to raise their performance level
Carragher said:
“We’re still only a third of the way through the season, but I think if Arsenal continue how they are, if this is the Arsenal we’re going to see this season, I don’t think they can win the league. For me, when we’re talking about a different Arsenal – we can see it with the stats, but everyone can see with their eyes. It’s not the same fluidity, the same pace, energy and creating chances – you can see that.
“The reason I don’t think they are as fluid is that individually, the attacking players have been average this season, whereas they were on absolute fire last season in terms of [Gabriel] Martinelli, [Bukayo] Saka and [Gabriel] Jesus. [Martin] Odegaard for me last season was up there alongside Kevin De Bruyne, but I know he’s had a few injury problems.
“I think definitely they’re ready to challenge for the title. But the stats here are quite telling to be honest and I don’t think that will work in their favour.”
Although Arsenal haven’t been able to showcase their best so far this season, they have still managed to place themselves at the top of the league so, it’s a really great sign.
It’s expected that Arsenal will get better as the season progresses and they will be able to showcase their natural fluid performance in the second half of this season.
