Arsenal plotting swoop for Leverkusen star Frimpong
Arsenal have reportedly been keeping a close eye on the development of Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong ahead of a potential move in the upcoming transfer window, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Dutchman has been displaying stellar performances this season, scoring six goals and registering as many assists in 17 appearances in all competitions.
Leverkusen has enjoyed a brilliant start in the Bundesliga this season, accumulating 34 points from 12 games and sitting at the top of the league ahead of Bayern Munich – where Frimpong is an instrumental part of Xavi Alonso’s starting eleven.
So, it appears after being impressed by the defender’s recent eye-catching performances, several big clubs around Europe have registered their interest in signing him, including Arsenal.
Speaking to Caught Offside, Romano has reported that Arsenal have been scouting Frimpong in recent times ahead of a potential swoop next year. The journalist further claims that the fullback has a £34m release clause included in his current contract and he could leave Leverkusen at the end of this season.
Frimpong to Arsenal
So, Arsenal can manage to secure his signature next summer if they opt to make a concrete approach. However, Romano states that securing Frimpong’s signature won’t be straightforward for the North London club as Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Barcelona are also eyeing a swoop for the youngster.
Romano said:
“There have been plenty of stories about Jeremie Frimpong and a £34m release clause in his contract. I can confirm that there is a clause, and he’s certainly a player who is greatly admired around Europe after some fantastic performances this season.
“Bayer Leverkusen as a whole have been great to watch under Xabi Alonso, and Frimpong is one of the team’s most important players with some superb displays at right-back. Frimpong has been scouted by Arsenal and Bayern Munich in recent times, as well as by Barcelona before they instead signed Joao Cancelo on loan from Manchester City in the summer.
“I think in June a move is likely for Frimpong, and he surely won’t be short of suitors as many clubs have been tracking him for some time. We’ll have to wait and see how this develops because there won’t be anything happening now, but he certainly looks like one to watch for the summer.”
Frimpong is an extremely talented player and possesses high potential so he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they opt to secure his signature. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Gunners eventually formalise their interest next year.
