Arsenal plotting swoop for Dortmund star Donyell Malen
Arsenal are reportedly contemplating a swoop for Borussia Dortmund star Donyell Malen, as per the Spanish outlet Fichajes.
Although the Gunners have enjoyed a promising start this season, it has been suggested that Mikel Arteta isn’t happy with his current attacking options and wants to bolster that position.
The North London club is reportedly willing to sign a new striker next year to reinforce their frontline, while purchasing a new winger to support Bukayo Saka is also seemingly on their wish-list.
Several forward players have been mentioned as potential targets for the North London club over the last few months with Malen now emerging as a key option. Given the Dortmund star can play anywhere across the frontline, he would be an option to strengthen both the positions that Arsenal have been planning to do.
According to the report by Fichajes, Arsenal have been contemplating purchasing a new attacker next summer and have identified Malen as a serious option.
The report further claims that Arteta has recommended the Netherlands international’s name personally so Arsenal could opt to make a swoop for him next year.
Malen to Arsenal
The forward – valued at around £30m by Transfermarkt – still has three years left in his current contract so Dortmund are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash-in.
Malen is a talented player, he is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, works hard without possession and can finish off his chances.
So, he could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they decide to purchase him. However, he has showcased that he isn’t a prolific goal-scorer and lacks the cutting edge inside the opposition box.
In addition, he has been struggling to secure his place in Edin Terzic’s starting eleven in recent times. So, there is a question mark whether the Dutchman would be the right option for the North London club to reinforce their attacking department.
Therefore, Arsenal could be better off exploring other options, however, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to secure his signature next summer to bolster their squad.
