Pundit says Arsenal star Kai Havertz is a ‘top player’
Former attacker turned pundit Paul Merson has said that Arsenal star Kai Havertz is a ‘top player’ and he could turn out to be a shrewd signing for the Gunners.
The North London club opted to purchase the midfielder from Chelsea in a £65m deal last summer. Questions were raised regarding Arsenal’s decision to sign him, especially after the 24-year-old’s struggles at the Blues.
Havertz endured a tough start at the Emirates Stadium and as a result, he came under a lot of criticism. However, the midfielder has seemingly started to turn his fortune around after scoring three goals in the last four games for Arsenal.
Now, writing on Sportskeeda, Merson has claimed that Havertz is a ‘top player’ and he could become an excellent signing for the North London club in the future.
The pundit further states that Havertz might not start for Arsenal against Aston Villa this weekend, however, he could be an excellent option for Mikel Arteta to play through the opposition press.
Pundit lauds Havertz
Merson said:
“As for Kai Havertz, I said so many times that he’s a top player and would be a good signing for Arsenal. I’m not sure if he’ll start against Villa, but I think they could use a player like him as he’d play a key role in beating their press.”
After an underwhelming commencement for Arsenal, Havertz has started to settle down at the Emirates Stadium and it seems he has been playing with a lot of confidence in recent games. So, it now looks like the Gunners have done a shrewd business by signing the German.
The midfielder scored a late winner against Brentford and helped his side win the game, while he opened the account for Arsenal versus RC Lens in the Champions League – where they eventually won the game 6-0.
The German international also put his name on the score-sheets in a crucial moment last time out. So, the North Londoners will now be hoping that Havertz will be able to continue performing at his best over the coming months and prove his doubters wrong.
Meanwhile, following a crucial victory over Luton Town last time out, Arsenal will travel to Villa Park to face off against Aston Villa tomorrow. The Villans have won the last 14 consecutive home games in the Premier League so it won’t be easy for Arteta’s side to come away with all three points from this encounter.
