Ex-PL star urges Arsenal to replace Gabriel Jesus
Former Premier League star Emmanuel Adebayor has urged Arsenal to sign a new striker to replace Gabriel Jesus.
The North London club have enjoyed a promising start this season, accumulating 36 points from 16 games. They have also secured their place in the round of 16 of the Champions League after finishing at the top of their group.
The North London club has been scoring goals at a nice rate this term. However, they have issues in their centre-forward position as Jesus has struggled with injury problems in recent times. In addition, the forward has found it difficult to score goals this term, scoring only two goals in 11 Premier League appearances.
Arsenal’s second-choice striker Eddie Nketiah hasn’t been at his best either this season. So, it has widely been suggested that the North London club need a new prolific striker to win the league title this season.
Adebayor tips Arsenal to replace Jesus
Now speaking on talkSPORT, Adebayor has claimed that Jesus hasn’t been ‘the same’ after returning from his recent injury so Arsenal should look to sign a new number nine to bolster their attacking department.
The ex-striker further states that Jesus is a technical player and likes to come deep to get involved in the build-up play. But, the Gunners need a box striker – who would stay in front of the goal and finish off chances when he gets those.
Adebayor said:
‘The problem with Arsenal is, even when I was there, I’d love to play football, to come in the middle and be part of the game because technically I’m not that bad. But now they have the same thing in Jesus. Jesus also like to come to the ball, and I think to win the league they need a striker who can just be in front of the goal, who doesn’t care how many touches of the ball he has during the game, he just cares about finishing.”
“Like Haaland, like Aguero, Aguero doesn’t touch the ball that much, but when he is on the ball he gets it in the zone where he can be very dangerous. So I think Arsenal definitely need a striker. Since Jesus came back he has not been the same, so they need a striker who doesn’t care apart coming out to be part of the game.”
Although Jesus has found it difficult to finish off chances, he has performed well for Arsenal. So, I think it wouldn’t be the right decision to sell him. Therefore, signing a new striker could be a shrewd decision but not by selling Jesus.
