Ornstein says Arsenal interested in signing Victor Osimhen
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Napoli star Victor Osimhen in the upcoming transfer window, as per the transfer expert David Ornstein.
The Gunners already have Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah as the centre-forward option. However, neither of them has managed to showcase productivity in front of the goal in recent times. So, it has widely been suggested that the North London club need to sign a new prolific striker to win the Premier League title.
A few names have been mentioned as potential targets for Arsenal with Ivan Toney, Santiago Giménez and Dusan Vlahovic being among them. But, Osimhen is reportedly on their radar as well.
Now, while answering the fans’ questions, Ornstein has said that Arsenal are indeed interested in signing Osimhen and they could look to make a concrete approach to purchase him next year.
However, the pundit states that along with the Gunners, several other clubs are also plotting a swoop for the Nigerian so the North London club are set to face tough competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for him.
Osimhen to Arsenal
When asked whether Arsenal could sign Osimhen by triggering his release clause next summer, Ornstein said:
“I have no information at present to suggest that but of course, I suspect he is on the recruitment list of Arsenal and many other leading clubs. Should be another fascinating summer in the striker market. High demand, low supply.”
It has recently been reported that Osimhen has signed a new contract with Napoli – which has a £112m release clause so Arsenal will have to break the bank to purchase the striker next year should they opt to make a move for him.
But, in relation to that, Ornstein says that £112m is a ‘bargain’ for a player of his calibre. The journalist said:
“£112million for a player of his calibre might represent a ‘bargain’!”
Osimhen is deemed one of the best strikers in the world at the moment so he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they manage to secure his signature. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to acquire his service next year.
