Arsenal receive boost to sign Brentford star Ivan Toney
Arsenal have received a huge boost to sign Brentford star Ivan Toney as the Bees are ready to lower their asking price to let their star man leave in January, as per Football Transfers.
The Gunners have seemingly been planning to sign a new prolific striker in the winter window to bolster their frontline and help Mikel Arteta continue the title march this season.
Several players have been mentioned as potential targets for the North London club with Victor Osimhen, Santiago Giménez and Dusan Vlahovic being among them, but Toney is reportedly their primary option.
However, it was reported that Brentford don’t want to let their star man leave for cheap and want at least £80m for him. So, it was thought that Arsenal might not be able to purchase the striker in January as it has been suggested that the Gunners’ winter budget has been restricted due to FFP rules having splashed over £200m last summer.
However, according to the report by Football Transfers, Brentford have now decided to lower their asking price and are ready to accept a fee of around £55m for Toney if Arsenal pay the sum in one go.
Toney to Arsenal
The report further claims that Arsenal could be able to spend that much money in January as they have earned £66m from the Champions League after finishing top of their group and qualifying for the round of 16 of this competition. So, this is a big boost for Arsenal to sign Toney next month.
However, Football Transfers states that Arsenal haven’t received the prize money yet so if they can’t pay the £55m fee next month, then Brentford are ready to accept a fee in instalments to let the striker join Arsenal as both clubs have a very good relationship.
It has recently been reported that Toney is open to moving to the Emirates Stadium and playing under Arteta. Arsenal are reportedly aware of the Englishman’s desire so, the Emirates club could be able to sign their primary target in January to strengthen the attacking department.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal can eventually manage to secure Toney’s signature in the upcoming transfer window should they formalise their interest.
