Arsenal reportedly remain interested in signing Napoli star Victor Osimhen in the upcoming transfer window, as per the transfer expert David Ornstein.

Having joined the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium back in 2020, the African has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world in recent times.

Osimhen guided his team to overcome their more than three decades of Scudetto drought last term. The 24-year-old has continued his goal-scoring form this season as well, scoring seven goals and registering two assists in 12 league appearances. So, it is not a surprise to see a big club like Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing Osimhen to reinforce their frontline.

It has widely been suggested that the Gunners lack qualities in their centre-forward department so they need to strengthen that position to challenge on all fronts. A few names have emerged as potential targets with Ivan Toney being mentioned as the primary option.

However, speaking on The Daily Football Briefing, Ornstein has claimed that although Arsenal have been showing an interest in Toney, it is unlikely they will be making a move for the Englishman.

Osimhen to Arsenal

The journalist further states that Osimhen is on Arsenal’s radar as well and they could make a move for him next year.

Ornstein said:

“In terms of Arsenal, there will be those at Arsenal who like him (Toney), he will be on Arsenal’s list as others will be – Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Sesko, Evan Ferguson, loads of other clubs have these same names on their lists, but if I was to give you my information at time of recording, I don’t think it’s likely Arsenal will be signing him.”

Osimhen has showcased his qualities at the highest level in recent years so he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him in the upcoming window.

However, it has been suggested that the forward has a £112m release clause included in his current contract and Napoli don’t want to let their star man leave unless his potential suitors such as Arsenal trigger his exit clause.

So, the North London club will have to spend a huge amount of money to sign Osimhen. It’s been reported that Arsenal can’t afford to spend big in January having splashed over £200m last summer. Therefore, it is looking highly unlikely that Arsenal will be able to sign Osimhen in January to bolster their attack.
