Pundit heaps praise on Arsenal star Kai Havertz
Former striker turned pundit Paul Merson has heaped praise on Arsenal star Kai Havertz.
The Gunners have decided to sign the midfielder from Chelsea in a £65m deal last summer. The German international initially struggled to showcase his best for Mikel Arteta’s side.
So, the 24-year-old came under a lot of criticism and Arteta was also criticised heavily for his decision to purchase the midfielder by spending a big fee, especially after his underwhelming stint at Stamford Bridge.
However, Havertz has started to turn his fortune around at the Emirates Stadium in recent times and he is currently the second highest scorer for the North London club in the Premier League with four goals.
Arsenal missed the former Bayer Leverkusen star against West Ham United last night – where Havertz was suspended having accumulated five bookings.
Arsenal’s side lost the game 2-0. They dominated the match and took 30 attempts but couldn’t break down David Moyes’ side’s defence. The Gunners looked a bit toothless in the opposition box and missing a goal-scoring threat like Havertz could be one of the reasons behind that.
Pundit lauds Havertz
Now, writing on Sportskeeda, Merson has claimed that he is a big fan of Havertz and he believes the German would turn out to be a successful signing for the North London club.
The pundit further states that after a tough start to this campaign, Havertz has started to showcase glimpses of his talent in recent times and it’s good to see he is now emerging.
Merson wrote:
“Kai Havertz has been good in recent weeks after a tough start to his Arsenal career. I was always a big fan of him and knew he’d come good, so it’s been nice to see him emerge as a key player for the club during the festive period.”
After losing to West Ham, Arsenal will travel to Craven Cottage to face off against Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. Havertz is set to return for this game after serving his ban and the North London club will be desperate to return to winning ways in this fixture to maintain their title charge.
