Arsenal could look to sign Dusan Vlahovic in January
Arsenal could reportedly look to sign Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic in this transfer window, as per Sky Sports journalist Gary Cotterill.
The Gunners have enjoyed a promising season during the first part of this term, but after failing to win their previous three consecutive Premier League encounters, Mikel Arteta’s side have now dropped down to fourth position.
They have managed to accumulate 40 points from 20 games, sitting five points behind the league leader Liverpool. So, Arsenal have now lost ground in the title race.
It seems the North London club have been exploring the possibility of strengthening their attack in this winter window to mount a title charge in the second half of this term.
A few strikers have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent times with Ivan Toney being mentioned as the primary option, but Vlahovic is reportedly also on their radar.
Now, speaking on The Arsenal Beat Podcast, Cotterill has reported that it is looking unlikely Arsenal will be able to purchase Toney in January but they could look to sign Vlahovic from Juventus as Arteta is a big fan of him.
Vlahovic to Arsenal
The journalist further states that the Old Lady of Turin want a fee of around £50m to let their star man leave but Arsenal aren’t willing to spend that much for the Serbian.
So, Cotterill claims that Arsenal could opt to submit a player plus cash deal to secure Vlahovic’s signature and Juventus would be interested in agreeing a structured deal like this.
Cotterill said:
“Not Ivan Toney because I don’t think Brentford will sell him in January. Another player though we know Mikel Arteta is a fan of Dusan Vlahovic. Juventus wanted £50m, but that was too steep for Arsenal, but Juventus have financial problems. They would listen to a cash-plus-player offer and there are also these tax rules in Italy which is something for them to consider.”
Vlahovic is a highly talented player and possesses the necessary attributes to become a world-class striker going forward. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him this year.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign the striker in January.
