Brentford star Ivan Toney ready to join Arsenal in January
Brentford star Ivan Toney is reportedly ready to join Arsenal in this winter window, as per Football Transfers.
It has widely been suggested that the North London club lack qualities in their centre-forward position so they need to strengthen that area to challenge on all fronts this term.
It seems the Gunners have acknowledged that problem so they have started to explore the market to sign a new prolific striker in January. A few names have been mentioned as potential targets for Mikel Arteta’s side with Toney emerging as the primary option.
Now, according to the report by Football Transfers, Toney is open to moving to the Emirates Stadium in January but Brentford have slapped a whopping £100m price tag on his head and Arsenal are reluctant to match the Bees’ asking price to sign him.
It has been suggested that other big English clubs such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have also been showing an interest in signing the Englishman. However, Football Transfers claims that Toney doesn’t want to join any club other than Arsenal.
Toney to Arsenal
Toney has already showcased his goal-scoring prowess in the Premier League before his suspension. So, he is a proven striker and could be a shrewd signing for the North London club to reinforce their attack.
However, the Brentford star has been out of action over the last few months so there is a doubt whether he can showcase his best straightaway after returning.
In addition, it has been suggested that Arsenal can’t afford to spend big in January due to FFP regulations so it doesn’t look feasible for Arsenal to broker a deal for Toney in this winter window.
Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign Toney in January to reinforce their frontline.
Meanwhile, after failing to win three consecutive games in the Premier League, Arsenal will face off against Liverpool in the FA Cup next weekend before taking on Crystal Palace in the league. So, the North London club will be desperate to return to winning ways in the upcoming games to keep their hopes of challenging on all fronts alive.
