Arsenal can sign Ivan Toney on a loan deal in January
Arsenal can reportedly sign Brentford star Ivan Toney on a loan deal in January, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have enjoyed a promising start to this season but after failing to win their last three consecutive games in the Premier League, they have now lost ground in the title race. Arsenal are currently fourth in the table with 40 points from 20 games, sitting five points behind the league leader Liverpool.
It has been suggested that the North London club lack firepower in their frontline so they need to sign a new striker in January to challenge on all fronts in the second half of this campaign.
Arsenal have seemingly realised that problem so they have been exploring the market to sign a new centre-forward. Numerous names have been mentioned as potential targets for the Gunners with Toney being mentioned as the primary option.
However, speaking on his Daily Briefing, Romano has reported that Brentford have slapped a whopping £100m price tag on Toney’s head and it won’t be easy for the North London club to secure the Englishman’s signature in this winter window.
Toney to Arsenal
The journalist further claims that Arsenal need to be creative to sign Toney this month as Brentford are ready to let their star man leave on loan if an obligation-to-buy option is included in the deal for a huge fee.
Romano said:
“Rumours started in November about an asking price of around £60-65m, but then Brentford understood that there are no other top strikers available on the market, and so now the idea of Brentford is something more like £90-100m for Toney this January.
“I don’t think it’s going to be easy, and any teams interested in Toney might have to be creative, so maybe a loan deal, but only if there is an obligation to buy.
“So, only if there is a guaranteed sale of Toney, and only for big money, otherwise I think he is going to stay at the club and then probably leave in the summer transfer window.”
Toney is a talented player and his suspension will be lifted this month so, he can return to action once again. Therefore, he can play for Arsenal in the second half of this term if he moves to the Emirates Stadium before the end of this winter window.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually opt to formalise their interest in signing Toney in January.
