Arsenal interested in signing AC Milan star Fikayo Tomori

By on January 5, 2024

Arsenal have reportedly registered their interest in signing AC Milan star Fikayo Tomori, as per Football Transfers.

The 26-year-old joined the Rossoneri on a short-term loan deal from Chelsea before the move became permanent back in 2021. Upon moving to San Siro Stadium, the Englishman has established himself as one of the best defenders in Serie A over the last few years, helping his side win the Scudetto a couple of seasons ago.

Therefore, it appears having been impressed by Tomori’s recent impressive performances, Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing the defender to bolster their backline.

According to the report by Football Transfers, the Gunners have decided to strengthen their defence this year and have identified Tomori as a serious target. The report further claims that Arsenal have been keeping a close eye on the Englishman’s current displays before making a potential swoop for him.

However, the report states that purchasing Tomori won’t be straightforward for Arsenal as Milan have no intention of letting their star man leave and in addition, Bayern Munich have also been showing an interest in securing his signature.

Tomori to Arsenal

But, Football Transfers says that Tomori’s family are Arsenal fans and the player’s favourite player growing up was the Gunners legend, Thierry Henry. So, Arsenal could manage to persuade the defender to move to the Emirates Stadium should they formalise their interest.

Tomori – valued at around £35m by Transfermarkt – still has three and a half years left in his current contract so Milan are in a strong position to demand a huge fee if they are forced to cash-in on him. Therefore, the Emirates club will have to spend a huge fee to secure Tomori’s signature this year.

The 26-year-old is a centre-back by traits but can also be deployed in the right-back position. He is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, excellent in defensive contributions and also reads the game well.

Tomori is a talented player and could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal to strengthen their backline if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to formalise their interest in acquiring his service this year.
