Arsenal considering submitting formal offer to sign Onana
Arsenal are reportedly considering submitting a formal offer to sign Everton star Amadou Onana in this winter window, as per the Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad.
The Gunners have been exploring the possibility of signing a new midfielder over the last few months. It has previously been reported that Mikel Arteta is keen on signing Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa but Unai Emery’s side have made it clear that they have no intention of letting their star man leave in January.
So, it appears after giving up on their hopes of signing Luiz, Arsenal have decided to explore alternative options with Onana now emerging as the primary option.
According to the report by Nieuwsblad, Arsenal have been showing a serious interest in signing Onana and they are considering submitting a formal proposal to lure the Belgian to the Emirates Stadium this month.
Onana to Arsenal
The report further claims that Arteta is ‘very charmed’ by the midfielder and believes Onana would be an ideal candidate to play in his system as the 22-year-old is big, strong, fast and excellent with the ball at his feet.
However, Nieuwsblad states that Everton don’t want to let their star man leave for cheap and want at least £52m. But, the Belgian outlet reports that Arsenal could manage to sign their target on a loan deal with an obligation to make the move permanent at the end of this season.
The report also says that Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona are keen on signing him, so the Gunners are set to face tough competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for him.
But, Nieuwsblad states that the Emirates club are currently the only club ‘pushing’ hard to get this deal over the line so they are seemingly ahead of their rivals in this race.
Onana is a highly talented player and has already showcased glimpses of his talent at Goodison Park so he would be a great coup for the North Lonon club if they secure his signature in this winter window.
It is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal can eventually sign Onana in January to bolster their engine room.
