Arsenal considering signing Feyenoord star Santiago Giménez
Arsenal are reportedly considering signing Feyenoord star Santiago Giménez, as per Football Insider.
The Gunners enjoyed a promising start to this campaign, however, they have failed to continue their momentum as they have lost their last three games in all competitions. As a result, Arsenal have lost ground in the Premier League’s title race, sitting five points behind the table topper Liverpool.
Attackers’ struggles in front of the goal have been mentioned as the main issue behind their recent downfall and it has widely been suggested that Mikel Arteta’s side need to address that issue to mount a title charge.
Arsenal have seemingly been planning to sign a new striker to reinforce their frontline with Ivan Toney being mentioned as the primary option. However, Giménez is reportedly on their radar as well.
But, the Emirates club can’t afford to spend big in January due to FFP regulations so it is looking likely that Arsenal will have to wait until the summer to purchase a new prolific goal-scorer.
According to the report by Football Insider, Arsenal are considering signing Giménez but Feyenoord don’t want to let their star man leave this month. So, Arsenal may need to wait until the summer to acquire his service.
Giménez to Arsenal
The report further claims that the Dutch club are ready to accept a fee of at least £30m to sell the Mexican so Arsenal could manage to lure the striker to the Emirates Stadium for a reasonable fee.
However, Football Insider states that Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham are also plotting a swoop for Giménez so the Gunners are set to face fierce competition from their city rivals in getting any potential deal done for the Feyenoord star.
The 22-year-old has burst onto the scene in recent times after enjoying a stellar campaign this term, scoring 21 goals and registering five assists in 22 appearances in all competitions.
Giménez has already showcased his productivity in front of the goal in Eredivisie and the Emirates faithful will be hoping that the striker will be able to replicate the same performance in the Premier League if he joins the club this year.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign the North American to bolster their attack.
