Arsenal ‘favourites to sign’ Bundesliga star Xavi Simons
Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign Bundesliga star Xavi Simons, as per a recent report.
The Netherlands international has been displaying promising performances in recent times. After showcasing his qualities in the Eredivisie last term, the 20-year-old has been displaying impressive performances for RB Leipzig this season having joined them on loan from PSG last summer.
So, it appears having been impressed by Simons’ recent eye-catching performances, the Gunners have registered their interest in acquiring the Netherlands international’s service.
Now, according to the report by Fichajes(via The Sun), Arsenal are keen on signing Simons and they are currently the ‘favourites to sign’ the Netherlands international.
However, the report claims that it is not sure whether PSG will allow the youngster’s departure so it remains to be seen whether the North London club eventually manage to lure the midfielder to the Emirates Stadium if they formalise their interest.
Simons to Arsenal
Having recently joined PSG, Simons – valued at around £60m by Transfermarkt – still has more than three and a half years left in his current contract. So, Les Parisiens are expected to demand a big fee if they opt to let the youngster leave the club.
The 20-year-old is a versatile player as he is an attacking midfielder by traits but can also play in the left-wing position. He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, has the ability to create opportunities for fellow teammates, can finish off his chances and also works extremely hard without possession.
Simons is an extremely talented player and possesses the potential to become a world-class midfielder in the forward. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they secure his signature.
However, the Gunners already have Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz and Fabio Vieira as the attacking midfield options. In addition, they also have Emile Smith Rowe but he has been linked with a move away from the club.
So, Arsenal already have enough firepower in their number ten position and , they don’t need to invest more to strengthen that department. Therefore, the Emirates club would be better off exploring options to reinforce other areas of their squad.
