Arsenal one of the ‘main’ clubs interested in Ivan Toney
Arsenal are reportedly one of the ‘main’ clubs showing an interest in signing Brentford ace Ivan Toney, as per the transfer journalist Dean Jones.
The Gunners already have Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah as the centre-forward option. Additionally, Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard can also play in that position if needed.
However, it has widely been suggested that the North London club need to sign a new prolific goal-scorer to challenge for the Premier League title.
Arsenal started the season promisingly but they have struggled to continue their momentum in recent games. It has been suggested that the attackers’ lack of productivity in front of the goal is the main reason behind their recent struggles.
So, it appears Arsenal have acknowledged that they need to sign a new top-class centre-forward to challenge on all fronts as they have been linked with a few options in recent times.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones has reported that Arsenal have been showing an interest in signing Toney and they are one of the ‘main’ clubs keen on acquiring his service.
Toney to Arsenal
The journalist further claims it is ‘more feasible’ that the 27-year-old is ‘attainable’ next summer so the Gunners are unlikely to be able to purchase him this month and they would need to wait until the end of this season to secure his signature.
However, Jones states that Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are also plotting a swoop for the Brentford star so Arsenal are likely to face fierce competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for the Englishman.
Jones said:
“The first thing to look for with Toney is whether or not he does actually sign a new contract. There’s been a lot of talk around it. But so far, there’s nothing in place for him to actually do that. And then all the talk around the new contract was that would include a release clause, which would need to be triggered in the summer for somebody to sign him.
“Now at the moment with that not in place, it obviously seems more feasible that Toney is attainable in the summer. I think there are a lot of clubs that genuinely are looking at Toney, I think that Arsenal and Chelsea are the two main ones. In the background, Tottenham and even Manchester United are having a look just in case the situation could change in a way that suits them.”
Brentford have reportedly slapped a whopping £100m price tag on Toney’s head so Arsenal will have to break the bank to lure the striker away from the Gtech Community Stadium.
