Arsenal plot swoop for Boca Juniors star Ezequiel Fernandez
Arsenal have reportedly been keeping a close eye on the development of Boca Juniors star Ezequiel Fernandez ahead of a potential swoop, as per the Argentinian outlet El Crack Deportivo.
The Gunners have seemingly been looking to sign a new midfielder as a potential replacement for Thomas Partey – who has been struggling with fitness issues over the last few years.
The North London club have reportedly identified Douglas Luiz as the primary option to reinforce their frontline. In addition to the Brazilian, Amadou Onana has also been mentioned as a serious target for Mikel Arteta’s side.
However, either of the Premier League star is expected to be very expensive for Arsenal. So, it appears Arsenal have started to explore cheaper alternative options in-case they miss out on signing their priority targets with Fernandez now emerging as a serious option.
According to the report by El Crack Deportivo(via Sport Witness), Arsenal have sent scouts to watch the Argentinian in action for his national team in the Pre-Olympic tournament before making a potential swoop for him.
Fernandez to Arsenal
The report further claims that Boca Juniors are worried that they may lose the 21-year-old this month and if they are forced to cash-in on him then they are willing to demand a fee of around £13m. So, the Gunners can purchase the South American for an affordable fee.
However, the report states that SL Benfica, Inter Milan and Sevilla are also contemplating a swoop for the midfielder so Arsenal are set to face tough competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for him.
The Argentinian is a left-footed midfielder and is a versatile player as he can play multiple positions across the middle of the park. He is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for long-range passing, is excellent in defensive contributions and also reads the game well.
Fernandez is a talented player and could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal. However, the midfielder might take time to settle down in his new surroundings should the Emirates club purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to formalise their interest in signing Fernandez to bolster their engine room.
