Arsenal suffer big blow in pursuit of Brentford ace Toney
Arsenal have suffered a huge blow in pursuit of Brentford ace Ivan Toney as the striker is more likely to join Tottenham Hotspur, as per the transfer insider Dean Jones.
The Gunners have been looking to bolster their frontline by signing a new striker as Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have found it difficult to perform at their best this campaign. Numerous strikers have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent times with Toney being mentioned as their primary option.
However, speaking on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, Jones has reported that although Toney has heavily been linked with Arsenal, there are doubts whether Mikel Arteta’s side would eventually sign the Englishman.
The journalist further claims that Tottenham are more likely to purchase Toney and Arsenal could shift their focus to alternative targets to reinforce their attacking department.
Jones said:
“I personally have doubts about Toney going to either Arsenal or Chelsea, which sounds strange because the narrative is he’s going to one of those clubs, but I think Toney might end up going to Tottenham. If Arsenal look elsewhere and Chelsea sign Osimhen, that might open the door for something like that to happen.”
Toney to Arsenal
Toney was suspended over the last eight months after being found guilty of breaching the betting rules. However, he returned to action with an impressive performance against Nottingham Forest earlier this month.
The striker enjoyed an excellent campaign last term before his suspension. So, Toney is a Premier League proven striker and therefore would be an excellent signing for Arsenal to bolster the frontline.
However, if the Gunners eventually can’t manage to sign Toney then I think they should go all-out for Victor Osimhen – who is reportedly also on Arsenal’s radar to reinforce the frontline. But, Jones has reported that Chelsea could sign the African.
Considering Toney and Osimhen are Mikel Arteta’s side’s primary targets, they can’t afford to miss out on signing both of them to their London rivals.
So, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club can eventually manage to sign Toney or Osimhen to reinforce their attack this year.
