Arsenal could make late swoop to bolster squad
Arsenal could reportedly make a swoop to bolster the squad before the deadline, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
It was reported that Mikel Arteta wanted to reinforce the frontline and the engine room in this winter window. Several names were even mentioned as potential targets for the Emirates club.
However, it later emerged that the North London club may not be able to strengthen either position in this window as their transfer budget has been restricted due to FFP regulations.
However, speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Romano has reported that Arsenal haven’t withdrawn from the market yet as they are still exploring the opportunity to bolster the squad.
The journalist further claims that if an opportunity like they did with Takehiro Tomiyasu a couple of years ago emerges then Arsenal will look to pounce during the final hours of this window.
Arsenal remain active in the market
However, Romano states that the North London club haven’t made any concrete approach to sign anyone yet so it’s likely that they would remain quiet in this deadline.
Romano said:
“As Arteta said, it looks complicated. It could be just something like a last minute opportunity as they had two years ago with Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna. He was a deadline day signing in the final hours because the opportunity was there and Arsenal decided to proceed.
“But at the moment there is still nothing concrete, nothing advanced. As Arteta said, they are probably going to continue with the current squad. This is the feeling.”
Strengthening the squad by signing a new striker would’ve definitely helped Arteta mount a title charge in the second half of this season as Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah have found it difficult to showcase their best in recent times.
However, Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen are reportedly their two primary targets and it doesn’t look likely that either of them will leave their respective clubs before the end of this window. So, Arteta may need to be content with his current squad for the second half of this term.
Meanwhile, following a confidence-boosting victory over Nottingham Forest, Arsenal will welcome title rival Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday evening. So, Spurs will be desperate to close the gap with the Merseyside club by defeating Jurgen Klopp’s side this weekend.
