Arsenal tipped to sign Ivan Toney in a cut-price deal
Arsenal could reportedly sign Brentford star Ivan Toney for a fee of just around £50m this summer, as per the transfer insider Dean Jones.
It has widely been suggested that the Gunners want to strengthen their frontline by signing a new prolific goal-scorer ahead of next season. A few names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent times with Toney being mentioned as the primary option.
It was initially reported that the Gunners could look to acquire the Englishman’s service in the recently concluded winter window. But, Brentford were desperate to keep hold of their star man so they slapped a whopping £100m price tag on the striker’s head.
It seems the Bees inflated valuation put off Arsenal so they didn’t opt to make a move for him before the deadline. However, now writing on Sports Lens, Jones has reported that Brentford could be forced to lower their valuation to sell Toney this summer as the striker will enter the final year of his current contract and they may accept a proposal of at least £50m.
The journalist further claims that Arsenal have been showing genuine interest in signing him and the player is keen on taking the next step in his career ahead of next season. So, the Gunners could manage to secure his signature.
Toney to Arsenal
Jones also states that although Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Manchester United are also plotting a swoop for him, the Emirates Stadium is likely to be his next ‘destination’.
Following the striker’s eight-month suspension having been found guilty of breaching the betting rules, there were concerns about whether the 27-year-old would be able to perform at his best after a long lay-off. But, Toney has resumed his football career brilliantly, scoring twice in three league appearances.
The Englishman is quick, strong, good in the air, has the ability to hold-up play, can finish off his chances, is efficient in link-up the play and also works hard without possession.
Toney has already showcased his qualities in the Premier League so he would be a risk-free signing for Arsenal to bolster their frontline if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to secure his signature during the off-season.
