Arsenal could sign Bayern Munich star Kimmich this summer
Arsenal could reportedly sign Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich in the upcoming transfer window, as per TEAMtalk.
The Gunners are seemingly set to make a move for a new midfielder this summer as a potential replacement for Thomas Partey – who has been struggling with fitness issues over the last few years.
Douglas Luiz has been mentioned as the primary option for the North London club but Aston Villa are reportedly desperate to keep hold of their star man. So, it appears securing the Brazilian’s signature won’t be straightforward for Arsenal.
Therefore, the Gunners are looking to explore alternative options if they miss out on signing Luiz with Kimmich now emerging as a serious target. According to the report by TEAMtalk, Kimmich is ‘at the top’ of the summer wish-list of Mikel Arteta so Arsenal could look to make a swoop for him during the off-season.
It has recently been reported that Kimmich has fallen out with Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel and his coaching staff. He was pictured in a heated argument with Tuchel’s assistant, Zsolt Low following the Bavarian club’s disappointing defeat against Buchum.
So, he could look to move away from the Allianz Arena this summer should the former Chelsea boss remain at the helm of Bayern Munich beyond this campaign.
Kimmich to Arsenal
Therefore, if that were to be the case, then it would be a huge boost for Arsenal to secure his signature. However, TEAMtalk states that luring Kimmich to the Emirates Stadium won’t be straightforward for Arsenal as both Manchester clubs and along with them, Real Madrid and Barcelona are also keen on acquiring his service.
Kimmich – valued at around £64m by Transfermarkt – is set to enter the final year of his current contract. So, Arsenal could manage to sign him in a cut-price deal in the upcoming window if he doesn’t sign an extension with Bayern Munich over the coming months.
It has previously been reported that Arteta wants to sign a new holding midfielder to push Declan Rice into the number eight position. Kimmich is a deep-lying playmaker by traits so the German could be an ideal option for Arteta to implement his plan if the midfielder joins the club this summer.
The 28-year-old is a highly talented player and is deemed one of the best midfielders in the world. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to purchase him.
