Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign Brentford star Ivan Toney this summer, as per the transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 27-year-old is set to enter the final year of his current contract and is reportedly keen on taking the next step in his career. The Bees are seemingly ready to cash-in on him at the end of this season in fear of losing him for free next year.

It has been suggested that several big Premier League clubs have registered their interest in signing Toney by taking advantage of his current situation with Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur among those.

However, writing on GIVEMESPORT, Jones has now reported that Arsenal are ‘favourites’ to sign the forward this summer and they have already made ‘inroads’ to secure his signature.

The journalist further claims that although Toney will have only 12 months left in his current contract this summer, Brentford aren’t willing to let their star man leave for cheap and want at least £100m. So, the Gunners will have to spend a huge fee to lure the striker to the Emirates Stadium ahead of next season.

Toney to Arsenal

It has widely been suggested that the Gunners need to sign a new striker to challenge on all fronts. Mikel Arteta’s side have seemingly accepted the problem and have been planning to sign a new prolific goal-scorer this summer. Toney has been suggested as their primary option but Victor Osimhen is also on their radar.

The Brentford star has already showcased his qualities in the Premier League in recent times so he would be a risk-free signing for the North London club.

However, Brentford’s £100m price tag is inflated, considering he is set to enter the final year of his current contract. So, I think it wouldn’t be the right decision to sign Toney unless the Bees lower their asking price.

Meanwhile, Arsenal approached the Champions League round of 16 first leg fixture against FC Porto having won back-to-back games for a huge margin in the Premier League.

But, they had to endure a disappointing 1-0 defeat. So, the Gunners will now have to turn the game around at the Emirates Stadium in the second leg to secure their place in the next round of this competition.
