Confirmed line-ups: Arsenal vs Newcastle – Jorginho starts for Gunners
Arsenal need a win to close the gap at the top of the table when we take on Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium tonight.
Liverpool extended their lead at the top with a win over Luton Town in midweek while Manchester City also beat Brentford in midweek and are currently winning away to Bournemouth [at the time of writing]. Therefore, the pressure is on Arsenal to respond with a win over Newcastle this evening.
Mikel Arteta has been without several key players recently and the team looked a little tired during Wednesday night’s disappointing 1-0 defeat away to Porto in the Champions League. Unfortunately, a number of players are still not ready to return to the squad so the boss doesn’t have too much room to rotate.
David Raya continues between the sticks while Ben White, William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes all keep their places in the back four. Oleksandr Zinchenko and Takehiro Tomiyasu remain on the sidelines so Jacub Kiwior continues at left-back.
Declan Rice starts in midfield once again while Martin Odegaard captains the Arsenal side tonight. Jorginho is the only change as the Italian international is recalled to start in midfield alongside Rice and Odegaard.
Leandro Trossard is the man to make way so Kai Havertz moves up front. Bukayo Saka will be the main threat for the Gunners this evening as he lines-up on the right flank once again.
Gabriel Martinelli also keeps his place on the left wing. Gabriel Jesus returns to the squad but is only fit enough for a place on the bench.
These are the teams:
Arsenal
Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Kiwior; Rice, Jorginho; Saka, Odegaard, Havertz, Martinelli
Subs: Ramsdale, Cedric, Elneny, Vieira, Smith Rowe, Nelson, Trossard, Jesus, Nketiah.
Newcastle
Karius; Trippier, Schar, Botman, Livramento; Longstaff, Bruno Guimaraes, Miley; Almiron, Isak, Gordon.
Subs: Gillespie, Lascalles, Ritchie, Barnes, Krafth, Hall, Murphy, Willock, Burn
