Arsenal submit formal offer to sign Amadou Onana
Arsenal have reportedly submitted an official proposal to sign Everton star Amadou Onana this summer, as per the Spanish outlet Sport.
It has widely been suggested that the Gunners could look to sign a new midfielder during the off-season as a potential replacement for Thomas Partey – who has struggled with injury problems in recent years.
A few names have been mentioned as potential targets for the North London club with Douglas Luiz and Martin Zubimendi being among them, but Onana is emerging as a key option.
According to the report by Sport, Arsenal are keen on signing the Belgian and they have already tabled a formal offer to lure the midfielder to the Emirates Stadium.
The report further claims that Everton are ready to cash-in on the 22-year-old and want a fee of around £51m so Arsenal will have to spend big money to secure his signature.
However, Sport states that Manchester United have also expressed their interest in signing the 6ft 4in beast and they have also presented a proposal to Everton to sign the midfielder.
Onana to Arsenal
The Spanish outlet says that Barcelona are also keen on acquiring Onana’s service and they are willing to spend a fee of around £34m for him. But, the Blaugrana’s proposal won’t match the Everton’s valuation so they won’t accept Barcelona’s offer if they submit it. Therefore, Arsenal are currently ahead of the Catalan giants in this race.
Mikel Arteta has used Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz in midfield for the majority of this season but the Emirates club looked impressive when the Spanish boss used Jorginho in the engine room, deploying Havertz in the number nine position last time out against Newcastle United.
So, this is an indication that Arsenal should continue with Jorginho. However, the Italian international has turned 32 and it’s unlikely that he would be able to play regularly.
Therefore, signing a new defensive-minded midfielder could be the right decision and Onana might be a shrewd option as the Belgian has already showcased glimpses of his qualities in the Premier League.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually purchase the Everton star to reinforce their engine room ahead of next campaign.
