Arsenal watches Zubimendi ahead of summer transfer move
Updates on Arsenal’s pursuit of Martin Zubimendi have been scarce in recent days, but HITC has offered an interesting one.
Arsenal scouts were reportedly present at Saturday’s encounter between Sevilla and Real Sociedad. Their aim was to keep an eye on Martin Zubimendi as they step up their interest in the midfielder ahead of the summer window.
The Gunners are set to sign a top-tier midfielder in the summer. Months after Granit Xhaka’s departure, there is still the argument that he wasn’t capably replaced; a midfielder with his profile is lacking at the club.
Zubimendi Scouted
Martin Zubimendi has emerged as one of the prime targets for Arsenal. According to the HITC, Mikel Arteta is a huge fan and is completely blows away by the Sociedad star. The Gunners boss instructed his scouts to watch Zubimendi against Sevilla at the weekend.
Sevilla won 3–2 at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium. Results-wise, it must have been a tough night for the Arsenal midfield target, but he played well. In that game, the 25-year-old played deep midfield, but on the left side.
His long-range passing was off, completing only one of four, but he did complete 56 of his 66 passes. He also had 77 touches and won all five duels. Though he didn’t put up his usual 5-star performance, he should have made a positive impression on the Arsenal scouts.
To bring Zubimendi to the Emirates, Arsenal may have to activate his £51 million release clause and fend off interest from several rival clubs.
However, if Arsenal do end up signing Zubimendi, he could form a formidable midfield at the Emirates. Zubimendi might play as the sole No. 6, with Odegaard and Rice as double 8s. On paper, this midfield may be unrivaled.
Anyway, we’ll have to wait and see if Arsenal decide to formalise their interest in the Spaniard this summer.
