Arsenal receive boost in pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres
Arsenal have received a big boost in pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres as Sporting CP could be forced to cash-in on the striker this summer, as per the Portuguese outlet O Jogo.
The Gunners are seemingly planning to prioritise strengthening their frontline by signing a new prolific striker ahead of next season. A few names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent times with Ivan Toney, Victor Osimhen and Joshua Zirkzee being among them, but Gyokeres is on their radar as well.
The Swedish has burst onto the scene in recent times after enjoying a stellar campaign this term, scoring 27 goals and registering 10 assists in 42 appearances in all competitions.
So, it appears after being impressed by the 25-year-old’s recent eye-catching performances, Arsenal have expressed their intentions of securing his signature this summer.
While citing and translating the print version of O Jogo, Sport Witness has reported that Arsenal are interested in signing him and they could make a concrete approach to acquire his service ahead of next season.
Gyokeres to Arsenal
The report further claims that Sporting could be forced to cash-in on some of their star men to raise funds in order to strengthen the squad and they could let Gyokeres leave the club.
O Jogo also states that Gyokeres has a £85m release clause included in his current contract but Sporting could sell their star man for less than that figure. However, it is apparent that Arsenal will have to splash a big fee to lure the striker to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
However, the report says that acquiring Gyokeres’ service won’t be easy for the North London club as Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan are also keen on purchasing him.
The 25-year-old is quick, strong, efficient in linking up the play, can play threading passes between the lines, possesses the poacher instinct inside the box, has an eye for scoring goals from distance and also likes to press the opposition backline high up the field.
So, Gyokeres would be a shrewd option for Arsenal to reinforce their attacking department if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to acquire his service during the off-season.
