Ivan Toney Brentford

Tottenham, according to Give Me Sport, are fearful of getting involved in a bidding war with Arsenal in the race to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney this summer.

If you’ve been reading the gossip columns, you’ll know that Tottenham, Arsenal, and Chelsea are all interested in signing a top striker this summer. All of these clubs are looking for a ‘target man’ who can consistently score goals. Interestingly, while in this transfer chase, they have ended up getting tied to the same targets like Ivan Toney.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Toney in recent months. There was widespread anticipation that they might try to sign him in January, but a move failed to materialise. The Gunner chose not to pay over the odds to sign Toney in the winter knowing his asking price would drop in the summer.

Arsenal have in recent weeks shown efficiency in front of goal, raising the question of whether they even require a high-profile striker swoop.

The Toney Transfer Battle

According to GMS, Spurs are hopeful that Arsenal will withdraw from the Toney transfer race. The Ange Postecoglou-led side are not willing to compete with Arsenal, or Chelsea, for the 27-year-old’s signature as they don’t want to be involved in a bidding war with their rivals.

The report claims the Lily Whites hold high regard for the Brentford hitman and are interested in signing him. But they will only pursue his transfer if Arsenal and Chelsea pull out, and he is available for £60 million or less.

However, Arsenal’s withdrawal from the race to sign Toney is unlikely as recent reports suggested the Gunners remain keen on signing the Brentford hitman this summer.

The one cap England international, who’s on a run of 4 goals in 8 games since returning from his betting ban, will be a wanted man in the summer. One favorable aspect of his potential transfer is that he might be available for as little as £50 million.

Brentford have hinted that they may sell him in the summer to avoid losing him for free when his contract ends next year. Signing Toney would surely benefit any team because he is a top goal scorer with the potential to take any side to greater heights.

The fact that Spurs have no desire to compete with Arsenal in his race gives Arteta some hope for a summer transfer. Hopefully, Chelsea (the other transfer rival) will prioritize a move for Victor Osimhen’s signing leaving Arsenal with a free-run at Toney.
