Arsenal interested in signing Alvaro Valles this summer
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Las Palmas goalkeeper Alvaro Valles this summer, as per the Spanish journalist Alonso Rivero.
The Gunners decided to sign Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffield United back in 2021 to reinforce their goalkeeping position. However, following the arrival of David Raya, the Englishman has found himself on the periphery this season.
So, it is expected that the 25-year-old isn’t happy with his current role at the Emirates Stadium and would want to leave the club to play regularly elsewhere.
Therefore, Arsenal have seemingly started to explore the market to sign a potential replacement for Ramsdale should he leaves the club at the end of this season.
Writing on Relevo, Rivero has reported that Arsenal have identified Valles as a serious option to reinforce their goalkeeping department ahead of next term. The journalist further claims that the Spaniard is set to enter the final year of his current contract but doesn’t want to sign an extension with Las Palmas as he wants to take the next step in his career.
Valles to Arsenal
Rivero also states that Valles will be respectful to Las Palmas and won’t push his way out of the club. But, if he receives a proposal from a big club then he will be open to moving away from the Estadio Gran Canaria. So, Arsenal could manage to secure the 26-year-old’s signature during the off-season if they formalise their interest.
However, the journalist says that Aston Villa and Real Betis are also keen on signing the Spaniard so Arsenal are set to face tough competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for him.
Valles, standing at 6ft 3in tall, has enjoyed a stellar campaign this term, keeping seven clean-sheets with a 74% saving rate in 28 La Liga appearances. Las Palmas boss Garcia Pimienta likes to play possession based football so playing in Mikel Arteta’s system shouldn’t be an issue for Valles should he joins the club.
The 26-year-old has showcased glimpses of his qualities in La Liga this term so he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal to support Raya if they eventually opt to acquire his service ahead of next season.
