Arsenal lead race to sign Martin Zubimendi this summer
Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi this summer, as per a recent report.
It has widely been suggested that the Gunners are set to sign a new midfielder in the upcoming window as a potential replacement for Thomas Partey – who has been struggling with injury problems in recent years.
Numerous options have been mentioned as serious targets for the North London club with Douglas Luiz and Amadou Onana being among them but Zubimendi is reportedly on their radar as well.
However, it has been suggested that Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also keen on purchasing him so it looked like Arsenal were set to face tough competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for him.
Now, according to the report by Sky Germany(via TEAMtalk), Real Sociedad don’t want to let their star man leave unless his potential suitors trigger his £51m release clause but Barcelona and Bayern Munich don’t want to spend that much sum to secure his signature. So, the report states that Arsenal are currently in pole position to acquire his service if he leaves the club at the end of this season.
Zubimendi to Arsenal
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta reportedly wants to sign a new deep-lying playmaker to deploy Declan Rice in the box-to-box role. Although the Gunners currently have Jorginho at their disposal and he has done extremely well in recent matches, he is currently in the twilight of his career so he won’t be the long-term option for Arsenal.
So, signing a new midfielder would be the right decision and Zubimendi could be a shrewd signing if they purchase him as the player has already showcased his qualities in La Liga in recent years.
The 25-year-old is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, reads the game extremely well, has the efficiency of protecting the back-four and is also efficient in defensive contributions.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to acquire his service in the upcoming transfer window to reinforce their midfield department.
