Arsenal keen on signing Martin Zubimendi this summer
Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi this summer, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners are seemingly planning to reinforce their squad in the off-season to challenge on all fronts once again next season. It has been suggested that Mikel Arteta is prioritising strengthening the attack by signing a prolific striker but purchasing a new midfielder as a potential replacement for Thomas Partey is also on his wish-list.
After joining the North London club from Atletico Madrid, Partey has established himself as an integral part of Arteta’s starting eleven over the last few years. However, he has continuously been struggling with injury problems so the Gunners boss has reportedly decided to let him leave the club.
Numerous midfielders have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the last few weeks with Douglas Luiz and Amadou Onana being among them, but Zubimendi is reportedly on their radar as well.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano has reported that Arsenal have identified the Real Sociedad star as a serious target to bolster the midfield department and they could make a concrete approach to acquire his service this summer.
Zubimendi to Arsenal
The journalist further claims that Arteta is a ‘big fan’ of the midfielder and he thinks the 25-year-old would be an ideal option to play in his system. Romano also states that Zubimendi has a £51m[€60m] release clause included in his current contract and the midfielder would be open to joining an elite team like Arsenal should they formalise their interest.
Romano said:
“From what I’m hearing, Mikel Arteta is still a big fan of Martin Zubimendi. He believes Zubimendi is a very talented midfielder and could be perfect for any club around the world, so Zubimendi remains one – not the only one – on Arsenal’s list, and there will be others for sure.”
However, the Italian journalist says that Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also plotting a swoop for him with Xavi Hernandez a big fan of him. So, the North London club are set to face fierce competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done.
Zubimendi could be a perfect replacement for Partey if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually manage to acquire his service in the upcoming window to reinforce their engine room.
