Arsenal aiming to sign Viktor Gyokeres this summer
Arsenal are reportedly planning to sign Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres this summer, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
After moving to Jose Alvalade Stadium last summer, the 25-year-old has enjoyed a stellar campaign for the Lions this term, scoring 36 goals and registering 15 assists in 42 appearances in all competitions.
Sporting have been mounting a title charge this campaign and Gyokeres has been playing a pivotal role in Ruben Amorim’s starting eleven. So, it appears having been impressed by the Swedish international’s recent performances, the Gunners have registered their interest in signing him.
Now, speaking on GiveMeSport, Romano has reported that Arsenal ‘will sign’ an ‘important striker’ and have identified Gyokeres as a key option after monitoring his performances this season.
Gyokeres to Arsenal
However, Romano states that Gyokeres has a £86m release clause included in his current contract and Sporting want a fee ‘very close’ to that to let their star man leave. So, the North London club will have to splash a big fee to lure him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Romano said:
“Arsenal will sign an important striker this summer, and one of the names on their list is Viktor Gyokeres. They’ve been following the Sporting Lisbon striker during this remarkable season, but they’re not the only ones. Gyokeres is appreciated by Arsenal, but they still have to decide what they’re going to do, and remember that the Swedish striker has a €100m release clause, with Sporting insisting that they want something very close to this fee, not something like €50 or €60m as reported by some media outlets.”
Gyokeres, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is quick, strong, good in the air, can run the channels, is efficient in holding-up the play, can create chances for fellow attackers, has the poacher’s instinct inside the box, can link-up the play and also works extremely hard without possession.
The 25-year-old is a highly talented player and could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually opt to acquire Gyokeres’ signature to reinforce their frontline.
