Arsenal to pay at least £50m for Amadou Onana
Arsenal target Amadou Onana is ‘likely’ to leave Everton this summer but a deal will cost at least £50m, according to Football Insider.
The Gunners are expected to complete a number of deals this summer, of which one could be a move for a top midfielder. Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice have proven reliable in the Arsenal midfield. Arteta felt Kai Havertz would complement the two in the middle of the park, but he is now flourishing in the attack; hence, they should sign another elite midfielder.
Onana has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent months and Teamtalk claims that the Gunners held discussions about a deal in the winter, but baulked at Everton’s demands.
Onana for £50 million
According to Football Insider, who cites Pete O’Rourke as their source, Onana is ‘likely’ to leave in the summer and the Toffees will now want at least £50m for his signature as they look to balance their books.
Sean Dyche’s side are in a tricky financial position having already been hit with two points deductions for breaching PSR, and they need to sell before the summer to make up the £89.1 million in losses from the 2022–23 season. Before registering their team for the 2024–25 season, they may need to sanction some key departures, like that of Onana, by June 30th.
With Everton under pressure to sell, the likes of Arsenal will hope to drive a hard bargain during any negotiations for Onana. Although £50m for a player of his quality would still represent good business in today’s market.
Onana has dazzled since moving to the Premier League from Ligue 1 in summer 2022 for around £34 million. The 22-year-old, lauded for his technical ability, passing range, vision, and midfield control, could be a dream signing for a number of top teams.
The Belgian international could be the perfect partner for Rice and Odegaard at Arsenal. Thomas Partey is tipped to leave after another injury-plagued campaign and Onana could be the ideal replacement.
