Arsenal could sign £69m Gyokeres thanks to Liverpool
Liverpool could help Arsenal sign Viktor Gyokeres this summer with the strikers agent confirming it will be ‘difficult’ for the player to stay at Sporting Lisbon if manager Ruben Amorim leaves, according to the Metro.
According to Hasan Cetinkaya, the agent for Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres, Liverpool could play a significant role in his client’s future with Sporting Lisbon.
As Edu alluded to not long ago, Arsenal will sign a top striker in the summer. The Gunners have been impressive, but sometimes it feels like they’re a clinical striker away from reaching their peak.
Gyokeres is among the top strikers linked with an Emirates switch. The Swedish international has dominated the Portuguese football landscape. In 42 appearances with Sporting, he has 36 goals and 15 assists.
Arsenal’s scouts have been following him for the past few months, and Football Transfers has even dubbed him as Arsenal’s top transfer target.
With all the speculation about the 25-year-old’s potential move to the Emirates, there’s an interesting update about him. His agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, has suggested Gyokeres could leave the Jose Alvalade Stadium this summer.
Why Gyokeres could quit Sporting CP
Cetinkaya believes it will be ‘difficult’ for his client to stay with Sporting CP if manager Ruben Amorim leaves. He reveals that last summer, Gyokeres rejected other clubs and chose to join Sporting because of the Portuguese tactician.
Cetinkaya is quoted as saying by the Metro:
‘Yes, it will be more difficult for Viktor to stay if Ruben Amorim leaves Sporting because Viktor came precisely because of Ruben.
‘The day we met, I said to Ruben: “Here’s my boy, he came to Sporting because of you”.’
‘There were eight clubs very interested in Viktor last summer. They all paid Coventry more than Sporting, they all paid Viktor more, they all paid a higher commission to the agent.
‘And I brought him to Sporting because of Ruben Amorim, because I know his work and his work with the players. I chose Ruben because he is a coach at another level.’
Amorim has done an excellent job with the Green and Whites, having them compete, win, and play attractive football. Liverpool reportedly want him to replace Jurgen Klopp, they have reportedly reached an agreement with him to join in the summer.
Amorim potentially joining Liverpool is clearly good news for Arsenal’s chances of signing Gyokeres as the strikers agent has suggested he would follow Amorim out the door.
The Swedish hitman will cost around £69m as per the Mirror, but it would be money well spent if Gyokeres continues his superb goal-scoring form with Arsenal in the Premier League.
