Arsenal make transfer decision on PSG-linked Victor Osimhen
According to IL Matino, PSG are close to reaching an agreement with Arsenal target Victor Osimhen over his summer signing. Apparently, PSG are preparing for life without Kylian Mbappe, and they want a headline swoop for Osimhen.
Some reports claimed Osimhen only has his heart set for a move to the Premier League. However, the report by Matino suggests the 25-year-old may have changed his stance and is now willing to return to the French League. Notably, he rose to prominence in Ligue 1 in the 2019–20 season when he played for Lille.
Osimhen to Arsenal
Arsenal have been linked with a move for Osimhen on multiple occasions. However, according to the report, the the North Londoners are unlikely to rival the Parisians for a deal for the Napoli hitman.
That Arsenal transfer stance is wise, given that even if Osimhen wanted to join the Gunners, his deal would have disrupted their summer plans.
It is believed that the Gunners are eager to bolster their team all-round, anticipating the addition of a striker, a midfielder, a defender, and a back-up goalkeeper. Signing Osimhen for around £113 million, his release clause, was always going to make it hard for Arsenal to afford other deals.
Even so, it would be shocking if Arsenal didn’t sign a striker in the summer. Earlier in the season, it was clear they needed a top hitman. They’ve managed to overcome their forward issues in recent months, but they still need to sign a clinical front-man.
The Gunners may have crossed Osimhen off their list, but fortunately, he is not their only target. They are considering affordable options such as Ivan Toney, who is reportedly available for between £30-£40 million, and Viktor Gyokeres, who could potentially sign for £69 million.
Arteta’s project may reach its peak with a top striker, but until the summer, it will remain a mystery who that is.
