Arsenal face £51m price tag for Ederson amid Chelsea interest
According to journalist Thiago Fernandes, London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in signing Atalanta midfielder Ederson Dos Santos.
With Atalanta, the Brazilian has solidified his reputation as one of the best midfielders in the Italian league. His impressive performances have piqued the interest of several clubs, with Fernandes claiming that Premier League heavyweights Arsenal have expressed their interest.
However, the Gunners will face stiff competition from London rivals Chelsea as the big-spending Blues are also showing a keen interest in the South American.
The Gunners need to strengthen their midfield with a quality signing. Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice have been superb, but Mikel Arteta could still do with another top quality midfielder to play alongside the duo.
Thomas Partey is tipped to leave after another injury plagued campaign while Jorginho is coming to the end of his career. Arsenal need a replacement and Ederson is emerging as a serious target.
Could Ederson be the missing link?
WhoScored claims that the 24-year-old possesses no obvious flaws, excels in tackling and ball interception, has a flair for winning aerial duels, and can consistently maintain attention. The Brazilian possesses all the necessary strengths to make an impression at the Emirates Stadium, where he has the potential to transform into a complete midfielder.
He has already dominated the Italian football scene; he should be ready to test himself in the Premier League. However, accoridng to the report, Arsenal will need to pay around £51m to tempt Atalanta into a deal.
It will be intriguing to see if Arsenal’s interest leads to a formal bid but they could face stiff competition from Chelsea, and their interest could see the asking price rise even further this summer.
If Arsenal sign Ederson, it might add another element to their midfield. When Jorginho plays as No. 6 and Rice has a free role, Arsenal usually play better so Arteta may be viewing Ederson as a long-term replacement for the Italian.
Rice may play as a box-to-box midfielder, assisting Odegaard in creating attacking opportunities while the Atalanta player anchors the midfield in front of the defence.
Could Ederson be the final piece of Arteta’s midfield puzzle? Only time will tell….
