Arsenal submit offer to sign Barcelona star Ferran Torres
Arsenal have reportedly launched a formal proposal to sign Barcelona star Ferran Torres this summer, as per the Spanish outlet Nacional.
It is an open secret that the Gunners are contemplating signing a new striker to reinforce their frontline ahead of next season. Numerous names have been suggested as serious targets with the Barca star now emerging as a key option.
According to the report by Nacional(via Football365), Mikel Arteta is a big admirer of Torres and the Gunners have accelerated their efforts to sign the Spaniard ‘at the request’ of Arteta.
The report further claims that Arsenal have submitted a bid worth around £17m in guaranteed fee plus £9m in bonus to sign Torres but Barcelona has rejected the offer as they don’t want to let their star man leave for anything less than £43m. So, Torres would be an affordable option for Arsenal to bolster their attack if they purchase him this summer.
However, Nacional states that Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are also keen on signing him so the Gunners are set to face fierce competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for him.
Torres to Arsenal
Torres is a versatile player as he can play anywhere across the frontline. So, the Barca man would be able to play in the centre-forward role and can also support Bukayo Saka when needed if Arteta’s side acquire his service.
So, although the forward has struggled to flourish his career in the Spanish top-flight in recent times after joining Barcelona from Manchester City, he could be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him.
Torres is quick, good in the air, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, has an eye for delivering excellent crosses from wide areas, can finish off his chances and also works extremely hard without possession.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club can eventually manage to acquire his service in the upcoming transfer window to reinforce their attacking department.
Meanwhile, following a disappointing defeat against Aston Villa, Arsenal will be desperate to return to winning ways by beating Bayern Munich in the Champions League tonight.
