Barcelona join Arsenal in pursuit of Alexander Isak
Arsenal should expect competition from Barcelona in the pursuit of Newcastle star Alexander Isak, according to the Sun.
Since moving to the Premier League in 2022, the Swede has established himself as one of the finest strikers the league has to offer.
In his first league season at St. James Park, he scored 11 goals in 29 games. This season, he’s almost doubled his tally; so far in 34 games, he has managed 21 goals (17 of which were in the league) in all competitions.
Newcastle must be pleased with the £63 million they paid to recruit him, and one would argue they may be looking to rely on him for years to come.
However, due to their precarious financial situation, the Magpies may have to sell some of their top players, like Isak, in order to comply with FFP and PSR rules.
Arsenal are known to appreciate Isak’s brilliance, and according to reports, they would jump at the chance of signing him because they believe he’s perfect for Arteta’s project — as Fabrizio Romano claimed not long ago.
The Italian transfer guru said,
“Alexander Isak is another Newcastle player attracting interest, and Arsenal have always appreciated him, even when he was at Real Sociedad. They’ve been scouting him for a while, and he’s considered a really talented striker, and with the style they have, I think he’s appreciated as a good fit for that style.”
Therefore, it came as no surprise when reports surfaced that Arsenal would be willing to pay Isak’s alleged £100 million price tag to tempt Newcastle to sell him this summer.
Isak transfer battle
However, it seems Arsenal will face stiff competition if Isak does leave St James’ Park this summer as the Sun claims that Barcelona are also showing a keen interest in the striker.
They claim the La Liga side sees Isak as a replacement for Roberto Lewandoski and are willing to negotiate with Newcastle over a £90 million plus deal.
With Barcelona entering the Isak transfer race, Arsenal have a huge task ahead of them. They now not only have to tempt their PL rivals to sell them their star man, but they also have to beat a European giant for the Swedish hitman’s signature.
