Arsenal target Bruno Guimaraes drops intriguing hint on future
Arsenal target Bruno Guimaraes may have just dropped an intriguing hint about his future, which will undoubtedly pique the Gunners’ interest.
Newcastle may cash in on one of their marquee talents this summer, according to reports. This move will help them balance their books to comply with FFP and Premier League PSR.
One of the players tipped to depart is Guimaraes with Arsenal among the clubs strongly linked. The Sun revealed recently that the North Londoners are eager to sign the £100m-rated South American this summer.
In a boost to Arsenal’s pursuit of Guimaraes, Eddie Howe revealed last week that the player has a £100 million release clause that expires on June 30th. Arsenal or the 26-year-old’s other suitors can pay the release fee in five-year installments.
As the Gunners prepare to launch their charm offensive to attract the Brazilian international to the Emirates, Guimaraes has now offered a hint on his future.
Guimaraes serenaded
Newcastle fans, worried about their midfield engine leaving, have launched a campaign to persuade him to stay. On Saturday, when Newcastle thrashed Sheffield United, the St. James Park faithful plastered a banner across the length of the Gallowgate End with the words:
“From Aliança and Rio to Newcastle upon Tyne, a home away from home. Joelinton and Bruno, our Brazilian Geordies.”
The intention behind this display of affection was to entice Guimaraes to stay, and it may have been successful. Guimaraes expressed appreciation for the efforts after the game, adding that they could be enough to inspire him to go “onwards to more” with the club.
He tweeted,
“An indescribable feeling I was able to experience this afternoon. Gratitude, love, respect, and partnership. My greatest victory is being a Geordie on the field. Representing you, the fans, on the field is what keeps me focused and always striving for my best.
“Happy for the affection you’ve always shown me and for being able to represent my country in Newcastle. Onwards to more.”
With the release clause established, it is evident how much (£100 million) it would cost Arsenal to sign Guimaraes. However, based on his comments above, he may require a lot of convincing to abandon the project at St. James Park.
Gooners should hope that Edu, their Brazilian Sporting Director, can sway his compatriot to move to the Emirates this summer.
A Bruno Guimaraes-Arsenal move would be a statement signing; he could be the final piece of this Arsenal midfield, as he’d form a devastating trio alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard.
