Arsenal in battle to sign Inter Milan star Nicolo Barella
Arsenal are in a fierce battle with several Premier League rivals to sign Nicolo Barella with Inter Milan prepared to listed to ‘tempting offers’ for the midfielder, according to Fichajes.
The Italian central midfielder has been linked with a move away from San Siro, as Inter needs a large sale to settle its debts this summer. The situation has alerted clubs here in England with the report suggesting that Arsenal are among those showing an interest.
However, the Gunners will face fierce competition if Barella does come to the Premier League as Fichajes says Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United are also eyeing the 27-year-old.
Arsenal are looking to bolster an already strong midfield. Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice have been exceptional this season, but Arteta is believed to be looking for another elite midfielder to play alongside them.
Reports suggest that the Spaniard is in search of a top midfielder capable of controlling the game’s tempo and driving his team forward. Martin Zubimendi has been touted as a prime target but he’s reluctant to leave boyhood club Real Sociedad, so Arsenal could be eyeing Barella as an alternative.
Barella transfer battle
However, they face competition from several Premier League rivals so it won’t be easy to win the race for Barella’s signature if he leaves Inter Milan for England this summer.
The versatile midfielder has made waves in the Italian league in recent years. In Inter Milan’s stunning league triumph this season, he only missed one of their 34 games; scoring two goals and providing three assists.
Transfmarkt values him at £64 million, so he won’t come cheap, but Inter may demand even more given the number of top clubs interested. His current deal expires in 2026, so they are also under no immediate pressure to sell.
It will be interesting to see how things play out over the coming months but it would be a major coup for Arteta if Arsenal could win the race ahead of their rivals to sign Barella this summer.
