Arsenal register interest in signing Inter Milan star Thuram
Arsenal have reportedly expressed their interest in signing Inter Milan star Marcus Thuram this summer, as per the Spanish outlet Fichajes.
After leaving Borussia Monchengladbach, the 26-year-old decided to join the Nerazzurri as a free agent last summer. Upon moving to the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, the Frenchman has enjoyed a stellar season this term, guiding his team to win the Scudetto. The forward has displayed eye-catching performances this season, scoring 12 goals and registering seven assists in 32 Serie A appearances.
So, it appears Thuram’s impressive performances in the Italian top-flight have attracted the attention of a few English clubs ahead of the summer window with Arsenal among those to have registered their interest.
The Gunners are reportedly set to prioritise strengthening their frontline by signing a new prolific goal-scorer in the upcoming window. Numerous names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium with Ivan Toney, Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres being among them, but Thuram is now emerging as a new serious option.
According to the report by Fichajes, although Inter’s on-field displays have been shiny under Simone Inzaghi this season, their situation off the field is currently gloomy as they are in heavy debt at the moment so they could be forced to sell some of their stars to raise funds in order to balance the books.
Thuram to Arsenal
Fichajes further claims that Thuram could leave the club ahead of next season with Arsenal showing interest in securing his signature. However, the report states that Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on signing him so the North London club are set to face fierce competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for him.
Having joined Inter last term, Thuram – valued at around £51m by Transfermarkt – still has four years left in his current contract. So, Inzaghi’s side are likely to demand a huge fee to let their star man leave this summer.
The Inter star is a versatile forward as he can play anywhere across the frontline. He is very quick, extremely strong, good in the air, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, has the efficiency of creating opportunities for fellow attackers and also can finish off his chances.
So, Thuram could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign the 26-year-old to strengthen their attacking department this summer.
