Youssouf Fofana speaks out on future amid Arsenal interest
Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana has spoken out on his future amid interest from top clubs such as Arsenal, as per the Mirror.
Fofana has been a standout for Monaco in Ligue 1, as he has anchored their engine room in 29 of their 31 games, scoring three goals and assisting four times. His physical attributes and ability to break the lines have helped him catch the attention of clubs such as Arsenal, with the report suggesting that the Gunners are showing a keen interest.
However, the North Londoners aren’t the only club being linked as the Mirror says the likes of PSG, Atletico Madrid, and AC Milan are also eyeing the French international.
The Monaco midfielder will enter the final year of his contract with the Ligue 1 club at the end of June. Therefore, Monaco will have to make a decision whether to cash-in or risk losing him for nothing in 2025.
Fofana is rated at £24m by Transfermarkt and he would be a terrific signing for the likes of Arsenal if they could sign the 25-year-old for that sort of price at the end of the season.
Fofana addresses his contract situation
The midfielder has now provided an update on his future amid the speculation, confirming that he will not make any decision about signing a new deal or pursuing a move until after the European Championships this summer.
Fofana is quoted by the Mirror as saying:
“We haven’t yet spoken about it with the sporting director,”
“He will allow me to finish the season so that there aren’t too many things in my head, and if I then go to the Euros with the France national team, we will speak about it upon my return. We haven’t dwelt on it.”
“Qualification for the Champions League could be important,’
“As I said, we haven’t dwelt on it. We’ll see what happens when we come back for pre-season.”
It appears Fofana is considering his future carefully and will take his time before making a decision. If he impresses at the Euro’s, no doubt interest in his services will significantly increase so Arsenal could face even more competition for his signature.
Mikel Arteta is reportedly in the market for another central midfielder as Thomas Partey, Jorginho and Mohamed Elneny could all leave this summer.
Fofana would be a terrific signing as he’s been one of the best holding midfielders in Ligue 1 in recent years. However, we’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months.
