Arsenal eye swoop to sign Amadou Onana this summer
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Everton star Amadou Onana this summer, as per Caught Offside.
With Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny’s future hanging in balance at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners have started exploring the market to sign a new midfielder in the upcoming window.
Martin Zubimendi, Douglas Luiz and Bruno Guimaraes have all been suggested as key targets for the North London club with Onana on their radar as well.
Now, according to the report by Caught Offside, Arsenal were interested in signing the Belgian in January but they never made a concrete approach to secure his signature.
The report further claims that although the Gunners didn’t formalise their interest last time around, they remain keen on signing him and could look to secure his signature this summer.
Onana to Arsenal
Caught Offside further states that Everton could let their star man leave if they receive an offer of around £45m so the North London club could manage to purchase Onana for a reasonable fee.
However, the report says that Tottenham are also plotting a swoop for him and in addition, Newcastle United and Barcelona are also interested in him. So, securing the Belgian’s signature won’t be straightforward for Arsenal this summer.
Onana is a dynamic midfielder and is extremely strong. He is quick, good in the air, efficient in defensive contributions and also has the efficiency of scoring goals from set-piece situations.
The Everton star is a talented player and possesses high potential so he could be a solid signing for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, there is a question mark whether the 22-year-old possesses the necessary qualities with the ball at his feet to play in Mikel Arteta’s possession-based system.
Therefore, Arsenal could be better off exploring other options to strengthen their engine room. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign Onana in the upcoming transfer window.
Meanwhile, following an important victory over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, Arsenal will take on Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday. Arteta’s side will be desperate to win this encounter to maintain their title charge.
