Arsenal receive boost to sign Martin Zubimendi this summer
Arsenal have received a huge boost in pursuit of Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi as the midfielder is tempted to move to the Premier League, as per the Spanish outlet Sport.
It is an open secret that the Gunners are keen on purchasing a new midfielder ahead of next season to reinforce the squad in order to continue performing at their best next campaign.
It seems the North London club have already started exploring the market as they have been linked with numerous names in recent weeks with Douglas Luiz, Amadou Onana and Bruno Guimaraes being among them. But, Zubimendi is seemingly on their radar as well. However, it has recently been reported that the Spaniard is happy at his boyhood club and isn’t in any rush to leave.
But, according to the report by Sport(via PressReader), Zubimendi is willing to take a new challenge in his career and could be open to leaving his boyhood club at the end of this season.
The report further claims that Arsenal are interested in signing him, while the Spain international is ‘seduced’ by the Premier League. So, this is a huge boost for the Gunners to sign the 25-year-old.
Zubimendi to Arsenal
Sport also says that Barcelona are also interested in signing him but La Real don’t want to let their star man leave unless his £51m release clause is triggered by his potential suitors. So, the Blaugrana might not be able to purchase him considering their current financial difficulties.
In addition, the Spanish outlet states that Bayern Munich are also plotting a swoop for Zubimendi. But, it has recently been reported that Xavi Alonso was willing to sign him if he were to move to the Allianz Arena, however, considering he is set to remain at Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern might not formalise their interest in him. Therefore, it appears Arsenal are currently ahead of their rivals in this race.
Zubimendi has flourished in his career playing in Imanol Alguacil’s possession-based style of football so he might not take much time to showcase his best in Mikel Arteta’s system if he moves to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Therefore, the Real Sociedad star could be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal if they eventually secure his signature in the upcoming transfer window.
