Arsenal are reportedly ‘very interested’ in signing Xavi Simons in the upcoming transfer window, as per the Spanish outlet Sport.

After coming through Barcelona’s youth system, the 21-year-old joined Paris Saint-Germain back in 2019. However, having failed to find regular game-time at Parc des Princes Stadium, the Dutchman opted to sign for PSV Eindhoven ahead of last season to play regularly and develop his career.

Simons enjoyed a stellar campaign in Eredivisie and after being impressed by the midfielder’s performances, Les Parisiens decided to re-sign him last summer. However, PSG reportedly couldn’t guarantee him regular playing time so the Netherlands international decided to join RB Leipzig on a loan deal ahead of this season.

Upon moving to Red Bull Arena, Simons has showcased his qualities in the Bundesliga this term, scoring seven goals and registering 11 assists in 31 appearances.

According to the report by Sport, despite Simons’ impressive performances for Leipzig this season, PSG are ready to cash-in on him and want a fee of around £51m.

The report further claims that Barcelona are keen on signing him and the player is open to moving back to his boyhood club. However, the Blaugrana can’t afford to purchase him by matching the Ligue 1 giants’ valuation.

Sport also states that Arsenal are ‘very interested’ in signing Simons by taking advantage of his current contract and they could make a concrete approach in the upcoming window.

However, the Spanish outlet says that Bayern Munich are also keen on signing him so getting any potential deal done for him won’t be easy for the North London club.

Simons is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to become one of the best midfielders in the world in future. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him.

However, Arteta’s side already have Martin Odegaard, Fabio Vieira and Emile Smith Rowe at their disposal to deploy in the attacking midfield position. So, Arsenal don’t need to sign a new number ten unless they cash-in on any of the current options.

Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually opt to formalise their interest in signing the Netherlands international in the upcoming transfer window.
