Arsenal register interest in signing Yan Couto this summer
Arsenal have reportedly registered their interest in signing Yan Couto this summer, as per the Italian outlet Tutto Juve.
Despite signing for Manchester City from Brazilian side Coritiba back in 2020, the 21-year-old hasn’t played a single game for the Citizens yet. However, the defender has come under the spotlight having enjoyed a stellar campaign out on loan with Girona this season, helping the Catalan side qualify for the Champions League next season.
So, it seems after being impressed by the Brazilian’s displays in the Spanish top-flight, the Gunners have registered their interest in signing him.
According to the report by Tutto Juve, Arsenal have expressed their intentions of signing Couto this summer so they could make a concrete approach in the upcoming window.
The report further claims that Mikel Arteta admires Couto’s style of play and he believes the South American would be an ‘ideal’ signing to reinforce the right-back position this summer.
Couto to Arsenal
However, Tutto Juve states that Juventus and Manchester United are also keen on signing the 21-year-old this summer so the North London club are likely to face tough competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for him.
Couto – valued at around £13m by Transfermarkt – is set to enter the final year of his current contract with Man City. So, Pep Guardiola’s side could opt to cash-in on him this summer in fear of losing him for free next year.
The Brazilian is a versatile player as he can play in the right-back position but is also comfortable in the right-wing role. He is technically sound, can play out from the back, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas and has the efficiency of creating chances for the attackers.
However, he lacks defensive qualities so he might not be the best option for Arsenal to reinforce their right-back position. So, I think the Emirates club would be better off exploring other options to strengthen the said position.
But, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign the former Coritiba star in the upcoming transfer window.
