Arsenal make ‘contact’ to sign Antonio Silva this summer
Arsenal have reportedly held ‘talks’ to sign SL Benfica star Antonio Silva this summer, as per Caught Offside.
After coming through the Eagles’ youth system, the 20-year-old made his senior debut back in 2022 before establishing himself as a key player in Roger Schmidt’s starting eleven in recent times.
Having showcased his qualities for Benfica, the youngster has already secured his place in Portugal’s star-studded squad and is likely to play a key role for his country in the upcoming Euro 24.
So, it seems having been impressed by Silva’s recent eye-catching performances, the Gunners have registered their interest in signing him in the upcoming window.
According to the report by Caught Offside, Arsenal are keen on purchasing the 20-year-old and they have already made ‘contact’ to get this deal done ahead of next season.
Silva to Arsenal
The report further claims that Silva would be open to leaving his boyhood club to take the next step in his career and is keen on playing in the Premier League. So, Arsenal could manage to persuade him to join the club should they formalise their interest.
However, Caught Offside states that Benfica value their star man at around £86m and Arsenal have no intention of signing the defender by splashing that much money.
The report also says that apart from Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool are also plotting a swoop for him so the North London club are set to face fierce competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for Silva.
Silva still has three years left in his current contract so Benfica are in a strong position to demand a big fee to let their star man leave the club this summer.
The Benfica star, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to become a top-class defender in future. He is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, has an eye for long-range passing and is also efficient in defensive contributions. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign Silva in the upcoming transfer window to reinforce their defensive department.
