Arsenal eye swoop to sign Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko
Arsenal are reportedly contemplating signing RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko this summer, as per Football Insider.
After being impressed by the 20-year-old’s displays during his time at Red Bull Salzburg, the Bundesliga side opted to purchase him from their sister club ahead of this season.
Upon moving to Red Bull Arena, Sesko initially struggled to find regular first-team football. But, following Timo Werner’s departure to Tottenham Hotspur, the youngster managed to establish himself as a key player in Marco Rose’s starting eleven.
Sesko played a pivotal role in helping his side qualify for the Champions League next season by finishing in top-four, scoring 14 goals and registering two assists in 17 league starts.
So, with Arsenal reportedly set to prioritise strengthening their frontline this summer, they have seemingly registered their interest in signing Sesko after being impressed by the striker’s recent performances.
Sesko to Arsenal
Now, according to the report by Football Insider, Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres is the Gunners’ priority target to reinforce their frontline, but the Portuguese giants will demand a fee of around £86m – which is his release clause – to let their star man leave.
The report says that although Mikel Arteta will be backed this summer, the money won’t be ‘unlimited’ having splashed a huge sum last summer.
So, Football Insider claims that Arsenal could shift their focus on signing Sesko as the Slovenian has a £56m release clause in his current contract and therefore, he would be a significantly cheaper option than Gyokeres.
The report also states that Sesko’s release clause can be triggered before the end of June so Arsenal can manage to secure his signature early this summer.
Sesko, standing at 6ft 5in tall, is quick, strong, has the efficiency of finishing off his chances and also works hard without possession. The Leipzig star is a talented player and possesses high potential so he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to purchase Sesko in the upcoming transfer window to reinforce their attacking department.
