Arsenal register interest in signing Dani Olmo this summer

By on May 28, 2024

Arsenal have reportedly expressed their interest in signing RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo this summer, as per the Spanish outlet Sport.

After coming through Barcelona’s youth system, the 26-year-old opted to join Dinamo Zagreb to play regularly and develop his career before signing for the German side back in 2020.

Upon moving to Red Bull Arena, the Spaniard has displayed promising performances in the German top-flight over the last few years, helping his side win a few domestic cup competitions.

While citing and translating the print version of Sport, Sport Witness has reported that Arsenal are interested in signing Olmo this summer and they could make a concrete approach over the coming weeks.

It has been suggested that the midfielder has a £51m release clause in his current contract and that can be triggered this summer. So, Arsenal will have to splash a large sum to get this deal done.

However, the Spanish outlet states that Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona are also keen on signing the 26-year-old with the player’s agent having already held talks with the Blaugrana over a potential move.

Olmo to Arsenal

The report further claims that along with Barcelona and Tottenham, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are also eyeing a swoop for him. So, Arsenal are set to face tough competition in getting any potential deal done for him. Sport says that Olmo is happy to remain at Leipzig and would only make a move if a new project excites him.

Arsenal have already established themselves as a Premier League title challenger under Arteta, but they have been struggling to make the final step over the last few years.

So, the North London club’s project should be a tempting one for the Leipzig star as winning the Premier League title by beating Pep Guardiola’s Man City would be a huge achievement.

Olmo is a versatile player as he can play anywhere across the attacking midfield position and in addition, he can also be deployed in the false nine role.

He is a technically sound player and possesses the necessary attributes to play in Arteta’s system. So, he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign Olmo this summer to reinforce their squad.
