Arsenal are reportedly ‘determined’ to sign Bologna star Joshua Zirkzee this summer, as per the Italian outlet TuttoSport.

Despite mounting a title charge this campaign, the Gunners were pipped to the post by the eventual champions Manchester City. So, it has been suggested that the North London club will look to reinforce their squad this summer to bridge the gap with the Citizens.

Arsenal are said to be prioritising strengthening their engine room by purchasing a new midfielder but bolstering the frontline is also on their wish-list.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been linked with numerous strikers over the last few weeks with Ivan Toney, Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres being among them, but Zirkzee is on their shortlist as well.

The Dutchman has burst onto the scene after enjoying a stellar campaign with Bologna this season, helping his side qualify for the Champions League next season.

Zirkzee to Arsenal

According to the report by Tutto Sport(via Fichajes), having been impressed by Zirkzee’s eye-catching performances this season, Arsenal are now ‘determined’ to sign him this summer.

The report further claims that AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus are also keen on purchasing him but Arteta’s side are already ‘preparing’ to submit a formal proposal to beat their rivals in this race.

It has been reported that Manchester United and Aston Villa are also interested in him but Arsenal are looking to move as quickly as possible to get this deal done.

Zirkzee reportedly has a £34m release clause in his current contract so Arsenal can manage to sign the former Bayern Munich star for a reasonable price this summer.

The Dutchman has showcased glimpses of his current form in the Italian top-flight this term and the North Londoners will be hoping that he will be able to replicate the same performance in the Premier League should he joins the club.

However, Zirkzee hasn’t showcased his qualities at the highest level consistently enough to prove that he would be the right option to help Arsenal achieve their lofty ambitions next season.

So, the North London club might be better off signing a more proven centre-forward to reinforce their attacking department in the upcoming transfer window.
